About me

Britta Linnemann - Künstlerin
in Chile

I have been painting and drawing since I could think. I also always wanted to be a painter, but not to live and die like the painters that I knew back then…

Early and poor
Late, embittered and poor

Nevertheless, I have seen more exhibitions and vernissages in the last 30 years than I have seen other people. Whether in Bogotá, California, Vienna, Hamburg or Berlin. Every color and shape attracts me like a magnet. And that is why I decided to become a painter after all.

It has always been that way – when I am “in action”, people are excited by my art. My “feeling pictures” are my trademark. My art is a mirror image of my vitality, energy, folly, and childlike manner. It is an unconventional way of painting pictures as they form in my head, and not according to the “rules of academia and teachers”. Art is inside me, and the picture is painted when I allow myself time and tranquility. The origin of a picture is not the discipline to draw and copy something and then recreate it photographically. Art to me is freedom. My hand draws a line for as long as it takes for me to consider it perfect – in my eyes. That can lead to discussions about when a picture is complete. It is only complete when I feel it is. Not when an observer says, “how beautiful, how inspiring”, but when the picture tells a story. The story that the observer discovers in it. In order to see art, one must remain curious.
